MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 25, 2010
giving R & S until December of 2012 to bring the property into
compliance. Keis also pointed out that there is the issue of how outdoor
storage looks, and suggested that renting to multiple tenants and having a
collection of storage items may be unsightly. He noted, however, that the
City did allow up to 60% of a property to be used for outdoor storage.
McGraw stated that he can see both sides of the issue, but felt it was
difficult to amend the Code to open off-site outdoor storage to any
business after all the work the City has done on this issue. McGraw
expressed concern that the result will be that the primary business on a
property is that of leased outdoor storage. He stated that he would like to
see busuiesses on properties in the City that generate jobs.
Sandberg asked if the City had any suggestions or if it was interested in
purchasing the R & S property and redeveloping it. McGraw stated that
he did not want to expand the outdoor storage allowed as requested. Keis
indicated that the City does look at opportunities for redevelopment, but
was not in a position to go out and purchase a bunch of properties.
"There was no one else present from the general public wishing to
comment on this matter.
The City Administrator reported that he did look at the tax record for
R & S noting that there was a large jump in properly value from 2009 to
2010. He suggested that they should contact Ramsey County and question
their property valuation.
Upon motion by McGraw, seconded by Boss, the public hearing was
closed.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOL UTION NO. 2010-8-190 - APPROVING AN INTERIM USE
PERMIT FOR ACE MOVERS FOR OFF-SITE OUTDOOR STORAGE
ON PROPERTY LOCATEDAT38 WEST WOODLYNNAVENUEAS
REQUESTED BYR & SAUTOMOTIVE FOR A FIVE YEAR PERIOD
SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS
OF THE CITY PLANNER
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by McGraw.
Ayes (4).
Nays (1).
