MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 27, 2010
Blesener suggested that as tenants turn over and signage is changed, it is
preferable to have raceway motimting to eliminate numerous holes in the
building. Blesener noted the holes in the building at the Market Place, and
felt it would be preferable to have that signage on raceway mountings.
Montour indicated that the problem is when signage is changed, the tenant
or property owner does not do a good job in repairing the building.
Blesener asked about the size of signage and raceways. Laage indicated
that the raceways would be either 5 or 8 feet in height depending on the
lettering size used for the sign. The raceway would be 4 inches in depth,
the sign 5 inches in depth for a total of 9 inches. Laage indicated that
these are typical dimensions. McCraw asked about letter height. Laage
replied that that would depend on the tenant. He also noted that most
signage is LED, therefore, decreasing the size of the lighting box needed
on the raceway.
Montour stated that his concern was for consistency and for keeping the
raceways as small as possible. The LED lighting will help in keeping the
size at a minimum. The City Planner indicated that the Architectural
Guidelines call for consistency, and the Council could require that all
building signage by lit via LED. Boss asked about the color of signage.
Laage indicated that while the raceways would be a color to match the
building, individual tenant signs would depend on the particular tenant.
'Iā€¢here was no one present wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by Boss, seconded by Keis, the public hearing was closed.
The Council noted the sign on the building that identifies it as "The
Village". The Council indicated that this signage was very attractive and
the ideal type of signage that the City is looking for.
Mr. Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOL UTION ND. 2010-10-262 - APPROVING A PUD PERMIT
FOR A COMPREHENSIVE SIGN PLAN FOR THE VILLAGE AT
LITTLE CANADA SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CITY PLANNER AS OUTLINED IN
IIIS REPORT DATED SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 AS WELL AS
SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
*ALL TENANT SIGNAGE MUST BE MOUNTED ON RACEWAYS,
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF "THE VILLAGE" SIGNAGE AS
PROPOSED THIS EVENING;
3
