The wood
products would come into the Country Drive site by rail car, estimated at
150 cars per year. Wenner reported that they speculate in wood
commodity products, buying in large volumes. On average there will be 7
to 8 million board feet of product on site with fluctuations of from half
that amount to twice the amount. Wenner reported that the business is a
family -owned business.
Blesener asked how many rail cars come into the site at one time. Wenner
estimated a maximum of 6 cars at any one time.
Keis indicated that when he visited the site 3 weeks ago, the outdoor
storage height exceeded the 9 foot maximum by quite a bit. I -le reported
that he visited the site this evening, and while the situation was better,
there are still some piles that are higher than 9 feet. Keis asked if the
height restriction applied to the storage under the canopies as well. The
City Planner indicated that the storage under the canopies were not subject
to the 9 foot limitation.
Wenner pointed out that they are currently a non - resident tenant of the site
and that Drywall Supply does the on -site management of their materials,
unloading it from the rail cars and storing it. McGraw asked if Wenner
would manage the site once he purchases it. McGraw asked about
fire codes. Wenner noted that the larger building is sprinkled, while the
small one is not and was not required to be because of its size.
Blesener asked the number of employees that would be on site. Wenner
estimated 5 to 6 employees on the site initially and hoped to have as many
as 20 after 3 years. Wenner anticipated the operation to be similar to his
plant in Wisconsin. He also noted that this site is located between the
Maple Grove and Wisconsin sites. Wenner stated that the outdoor storage
is a very important component of the business. He pointed out that the
wood products are packaged and would be neatly stacked.
Blesener asked about a PUD Permit that was specifically tailored to this
business. Wenner reported that his preference would be for a permit that
is as flexible as possible. He stated, however, that the goal would be to
5
