MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 24, 2011
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Montour.
Ayes (4)
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
The City Administrator indicated that if all approvals are received,
construction would not start on the park and ride until the spring of 2012.
AMEND Blesener opened the Public Hearing to consider an Amendment to the
ZONING Zoning Code relative to the regulation of storage containers in the
CODE — Industrial -Park (I -P) District. The Planning Commission recommended
OUTDOOR approval subject to compliance with the recommendations of the City
STORAGE Planner.
IN I -P
The City Planner presented the Council with a proposed Amendment to
the Zoning Code with establishes standards for the regulation of storage
containers in the I -P District. He indicated that when the City updated its
zoning regulations, it paid special attention to the use of storage containers
in the I -1 District with regard to number of containers in relation to the
size of the property as well as height and size of containers, etc. The
Planner noted, however, that the issue of storage containers was not
addressed in the I -P District. The Planner pointed out that the next item
on the agenda is a request for the use of a storage container on property
zoned I -P District. Based on that application, City staff is recommending
that conditions be established regulating storage containers in I -P.
The Planner reviewed the conditions proposed as outlined in his report
dated April 5, 2011. Given that the amount of outdoor storage is
significantly limited in the I -P District, he is recommending that no more
than one storage container per 15,000 square feet of lot area be allowed, or
comply with other area requirements for outdoor storage, whichever is
most restrictive. The Planner noted that this standard is about half of what
is allowed in 1 -1.
Blesener noted that the Council has discussed this issue at a recent
meeting, and there was consensus to proceed with the creation of an
outdoor storage standard for shipping containers in the I -P District.
There was no one from the general public present wishing to comment on
this matter.
Upon motion by Keis, seconded by McGraw, the public hearing was
closed.
12
