MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 28, 2011
one was done, it seemed to warrant continued usage of the rink, although
the usage of the Demont rink is less than that at the Fire Barns.
Keis suggested that a count be done of rink usage. He pointed out that if
future budget cuts would be necessary, it would be beneficial to have
some data on usage.
Boss asked if the City has considered renting out the Demont rink to a
hockey association or for a birthday party. The Administrator replied that
he was not sure the City was ever approached with such a request. He
indicated that that may be an option. McGraw suggested that the City
contact that Roseville Area Hockey Association to determine if there is
any interest. The Administrator stated that he would forward this
suggestion on to the Parks & Rec Director.
Montour pointed out that the Demont rink is an amenity for the City and
suggested that the decision to close it may have been made too quickly.
FIe pointed out, however, that the City needed to make some cuts for the
2011 Budget, and that was one of the areas cut. Montour indicated that
there may have to be similar decisions made in future budget years.
Boss introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -9 -197 — APPROVING THE REOPENING
OF THE DEMONT RINK AS PROPOSED BY THE PARKS &
RECREATION DIRECTOR, APPROVING THE MODIFICATION TO
THE 2011 BUDGET TO REFLECT THESE ADDITIONAL COSTS,
AND INSTRUCTING THE PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR TO
TRACK USAGE OF THE DEMONT RINK FACILITY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by McGraw.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
IONA LANE The City Administrator reported that the restoration work on Iona Lane
IMPROVEMENT is not up to City standards and the City Engineer is dealing with the
contractor to resolve this issue. The contractor was given a September
16Th deadline to make corrections or the City will impose damages. That
deadline has not been met. The final lift on Iona Lane has been delayed
pending the satisfactory completion of the restoration work. The reason
for this is to hold enough retainage to ensure that all the work is completed
satisfactorily. If the final lift were installed and the contractor paid for that
work, there may not he enough retainage left to ensure that the contractor
complete the restoration work. However, given the time of year, the
11
