Manson
We responded to an anonymous complaint the building official received about this unit
stating this might be a health/safety hazard. We contacted the building office and talked
with Ellen Hilla about this unit and we were given access to investigate this complaint.
Our findings are as noted below.
1. Fire Rated Construction
a) The sheet rock has been removed from the walls of this unit. This violates
the fire rated construction requirements of the building.
b) By removing the sheetrock this has placed the entire building in jeopardy
because of the possibility of spread of fire.
Minnesota State Fire Code 703.1
The required fire - resistance rating of fire - resistant construction (including walls,
firestops, partitions, smoke barriers, floors) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be
properly repaired, or replaced when damaged, altered, breached, or penetrated.
Electrical
c) The open electrical wiring hazard.
d) The Minnesota State Fire Code states, " Open junction boxes and open -
wiring splices shall be prohibited ". Approved covers shall be provided for
all switch and electrical boxes.
e) Live electrical wires hanging in the air without covers or in boxes.
Minnesota State Fire Code 605
9
