Hanson
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener & Members of the City Council
FROM: Jessica Jagoe, Code Enforcement Officer
DATE: April 25, 2007
RE: Valor Enterprises
Yesterday Jim Lee, Fire Inspector, Steve Westerhaus, Building Official, Pete Tokle, Electrical
Inspector and myself were able to inspect inside and outside of the property at 3165 -3167 Spruce
Street, Valor Enterprises with the owners permission. Pat Sweeney, City Attorney was also
present as was Michael Mergens, Valor's Attorney, and Lori Peterson, Owner. This would be
the first onsite inspection since the correction of the imminent hazards on March 8, 2007. Since
the revocation, I have listed several items below that have changed with the property —
Building Code Violations
• I sent a letter to Valor Enterprises on February 8, 2007, with the Electrical Hazards, Fire
Hazards, Building Code Hazards, and Imminent Hazard reports attached to it. These
reports outlined multiple violations on the site noted from inspections conducted on
January 8 and 26, 2007. In this letter, staff specifically notes that no electrical, building,
or mechanical work should start without prior approval and permits. I sent a reminder
letter on April 6, 2007, again noting no work should start prior to permit approval. Per
the admission of Lori Peterson and Michael Mergens, King Electric has done work on
the site to start correcting some of the violations. In viewing the electrical panel located
off the office area, it is quite evident that work has been done. To date, there has been
no peiurit filed with the City of Little Canada for approval. (See Attachments #1 -3)
• The shelving in the main shop bay was cleared as a result of the imminent hazards
violations. Valor Enterprises removed all storage from the shelving to correct this
violation. Yesterday, there was a ladder leaning up against this area and it is once again
being loaded up with various parts and debris. (See Attachment #4)
• The reports listed above were created from inspections occurring on January 8 and 26,
2007. The inspections resulted in five (5) imminent hazard violations, 10 electrical code
violations, 97 fire code violations, and 21 building code violations. (Total 133
violations) The five (5) imminent hazard violations were corrected and inspected on
4
