Hanson
www.ci.little-eanada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: February 8, 2007
RE: Canadian Woods Park Charge
Discussions have been continuing relative to the park charge for Canadian Woods. At its
February 15` meeting, the Parks & Recreation Commission recommended the following
two options (see January 261h report attached as well as Commission minutes):
Johnson to sell the easterly 50 feet of his land to the abutting Maplewood
property owners, with the exception of the area adjacent to the Ostertag and
Mogren properties where only 35 feet of property can be sold due to location
of wetland edge. The property must be kept in a natural state.
Option 1— Trail easement to the City west of the property sold to the
Maplewood residents. In addition to the easement a cash park charge would
be collected per lot.
Option 2 — 10% land dedication as park charge, with the land dedication to
be located west of the property sold to the Maplewood residents.
Since the February ls` Parks & Recreation Commission meeting, Pat Johnson has
suggested selling 150 feet of his property to the abutting Maplewood residents. Staff has
reviewed this option and feels it is acceptable and would meet the intent of the
Commission, subject to the following:
Dedication of a blanket trail easement over the 150 feet of property to be sold to
the Maplewood residents;
i The 150 feet of property to be sold must be kept in its natural state;
