• Energy efficient lighting will be reviewed in 2008 for interior lighting of Fire
Station, Parks Maintenance Shop, and City Hall It is thought that replacing
existing light fixtures, ballasts, switches, etc., will result in overall energy savings
in these buildings. An energy study /audit will be conducted on each building prior
to proceeding to determine cost benefit. Budgeted costs are preliminary estimates.
• The 2007 Old Fire Hall building repair of $13,000 represented the estimated cost
to repair the flooring in Parks maintenance shop. The concrete floor in the garage
area of the Parks Maintenance Shop is coated with a waterproof, non -slip surface
that has chipped off and deteriorated since it was installed about 30 years ago. It
serves a dual purpose by creating a safer working surface for employees when the
floor gets wet and keeps water from entering the ceiling of the rental hall from
melting snow and washing equipment in the shop above. Further review of the
products available was completed in 2007. The cost estimate for the appropriate
product is $15,000.
• The Pioneer Well System has been budget to be repaired in 2008. The irrigation
well has had several major pipe breaks in recent years resulting in several
thousand dollars in repairs each summer. To correct the situation we are
evaluating a new "slow start" electronic system for the pump that would eliminate
the surge of water through the system currently created when the existing pump
turns on. Lee Elfering has knowledge of these systems and will be making a
recommendation prior to proceeding with this purchase. The current repair
estimate is $19,000.
• The 2007 budget included costs for renovating the Spooner and Pioneer Tennis
Counts in 2008. The tennis court renovation that was completed in 2007 with the
asphalt resurfacing. The lighting portion of the project will be completed in 2008.
The original light poles and fixtures installed in the late 1970's are in need of
replacement. The cost estimate of $50,000 is based on similar past lighting
projects.
• Replace of the lighting at Rink #1 (Little Canada Road) is budgeted for 2008. The
existing rink lighting was installed in the early 1970's. The wooden poles as well
as the fixtures have deteriorated to the point of needing to be replaced. Removing
the overhead wiring and placing it underground would also serve to clean up the
complex. Preliminary cost estimate is 328,000.
• The Purchase of a Bobcat Milling Implement has been budgeted for 2008 at an
estimated cost of $12,500. This piece of equipment will allow us to patch streets
using a cleaner, more permanent method. The milling machine grinds up the
asphalt to a desired depth and leaves a good surface for new asphalt to adhere to
old asphalt and also keeps the edges straight for a better appearance. This will
enable us to fix heaves and dips in the road along with prepping streets for seal
coating.
