MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />FEBRUARY 2, 2012 <br />EMERALD The Director reported that the forester that did the inventory of the City's <br />ASH ash trees is recommending the City not take down ash trees until they <br />BORER become diseased. The recommendation is that additional species of trees <br />be added to the key areas such as City Hall, the berms between the <br />Pioneer Park ballfiolds, etc. The Director reported that he has submitted <br />the plan to Sanders to review the specific species and sizes recommended. <br />The Director reported that the Council has budgeted $6,000 for <br />reforestation in 2012, and felt this would be adequate. <br />GRAFFITI The Director reported that he discussed the status of the Graffiti <br />ORDINANCE Ordinance with the City Administrator. The Administrator indicated that <br />the plan is to include this within the City's Nuisance Ordinance update. <br />That process has been delayed given current staffing shortages at City <br />Hall. The Administrator's goal is to have the Nuisance Ordinance update <br />completed by April. <br />2012 The Director submitted proposed 2012 youth program fees, pointing out <br />YOUTH the Little Canada Recreation Association's 20% subsidy which buys <br />PROGRAM down the fees for all participants. That total subsidy amounts to almost <br />FEES $6,000 on an annual basis. The Director also noted that additionally <br />LCRA also provides scholarships for participants who cannot afford <br />program fees. <br />Slain asked how Little Canada's program fees compare to those of other <br />cities. The Director reported that program fees are comparable, and prove <br />to be very competitive after application of the subsidy amount. <br />Slain recommended adoption of 2012 youth recreational program fees as <br />recommended by the Parks & Recreation Director. <br />Motion seconded by Maida. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />COMMISSION The Director reported that the City received four applications for <br />REAPPOINT- appointment to the two vacancies on the Commission. Two applications <br />MENT were from the incumbents, Dan Slain and Patti Sullivan. The other two <br />PROCESS were from Ron Horwath and Rita Mills. The Director reported that he <br />and the Chair conducted a phone interview of Rita Mills. Given Horwath <br />applied and was interviewed last year, he was not interviewed again. The <br />Director reported that he and the Chair agreed that all four candidates <br />were well qualified to serve on the Commission. However, their <br />recommendation was to reappoint the incumbents, which the Council did <br />at their December 21 S( meeting. <br />5 <br />
