recyclables to a market that assures these materials will not be landfilled. <br />The Contractor shall not mix other types of refuse or inorganic materials <br />with the recyclables or take any action so as to make the recyclable <br />material unacceptable to the operators of the recycling center. <br />h. Material Preparation & Separation Requirements. The Contractor is <br />responsible for immediately informing residential dwelling units of how <br />to properly prepare recyclables for collection. If the Contractor fails to <br />pick up recyclables at a residential dwelling unit because it was <br />improperly prepared, it is the Contractor's responsibility to immediately <br />inform in writing the residential dwelling unit on how to properly <br />prepare the recyclables so that they will be acceptable for pick up. Any <br />change in material preparation and separation requirements must be <br />approved by the City prior to implementing such change and the <br />Contractor shall bear full responsibility for notifying residents of <br />changes. <br />4. Bulky Item Pickup. Each residence is allowed to dispose of up to three "bulky <br />items" per year as defined by this contract. The Contractor shall collect, transport, <br />dispose of, and /or process these items without additional fees or charges to the <br />resident as specified below: <br />a. Frequency of Collection. Contractor shall provide service to residents <br />by appointment. Collections shall take place on the same day of the <br />week as the resident's refuse and recycling pickup. <br />b. Process for Collection. The resident shall contact the Contractor <br />directly to request pickup of the bulky item(s). The resident shall place <br />the item curbside for pickup. <br />c. Reporting. The Contractor shall be responsible for instituting a system <br />to regulate the number of items to be picked up per year and shall inform <br />City of said system. Contractor shall also report to the City on a monthly <br />basis the date of resident request, date of pickup, address of the <br />generating residence, number and type of items picked up. <br />B. Service Schedule. <br />1. Hours. The Contractor shall perform all collection services between the hours of <br />7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., on Monday through Friday, except when an- emergency <br />exists, at which time the Contractor shall notify the City of such emergency. <br />The Contractor may perform collection services on Saturday when a holiday <br />falls on a weekday. <br />-8- <br />9 <br />
