The haulers would assist with the roll -out. They would provide the hand -outs and fliers <br />for the change to single sort. They would supply all residents with a calendar at the <br />beginning of each year designating which weeks would be the pick -up weeks for <br />recycling. These calendars could be hung on the refrigerator. Some samples of these <br />hand -outs are included with this letter. <br />Advantages of one -sort recycling: <br />• They are wheeled carts- no more lifting of bins <br />• They have lids- no more blowing away of material from bins <br />• Less truck traffic- every other week pickup <br />• Takes up the same footage in your garage as the bin- just taller <br />• No more bundling of cardboard- it goes into the cart! <br />• Increase in volume of recycled material <br />Views from Ramsey County Environmental Health and possible disadvantages of single <br />sort recycling: <br />• Increase in contamination with all items in one container <br />• Every -other week collection schedule- remembering to set out <br />• Every -other week collection- volume might be an issue -full container <br />If the council wishes to have a tour of the single sort recycling facilities, both Waste <br />Management and BM /Allied Waste are willing to schedule a time for us to walk through <br />and view their plants. <br />Both Jennefer Klennert and Rich Hirstein will be in attendance at the council meeting, <br />working together to answer any and all questions you may have on single sort recycling. <br />They also will have on display for your viewing a sample of their single sort carts. <br />We are looking for your opinions and your direction in whether we should pursue the <br />single sort recycling in our contract negotiations. <br />
