<br />3 <br /> <br />• Incorporate a new storage facility on the south side of the parcel to provide more room and <br />storage for parks maintenance and recreation programming. <br />• Support passive use from park users around the building, while also providing private space <br />for event use. <br />• Replace athletic courts if they are removed because of this project <br />• Prioritize the preservation of viable trees; replace trees <br />• Extend vegetation along Centerville Road to buffer nearby homes from commercial noise and <br />light, minimizing neighborhood disruption. <br />Use Sustainable Building Strategies to Create a Green Building <br />Creating a facility that is energy efficient and sustainable is important in today’s world. Where <br />feasible, the TAC recommends considering the following sustainable features: <br />• Consider options to ensure the facility is energy efficient, utilize renewable energy (such as <br />solar) on site, and evaluate decarbonization strategies <br />• Use best stormwater management techniques <br />• Use materials that come from the region and that are recycled when possible <br />• Protect current trees on site and use native/adaptive vegetation <br />• Create a facility with design features for optimizing natural light and views <br />• Look into building automation to make the facility efficient <br /> <br />Design Imperatives: <br />Design imperatives are the essential, non-negotiable principles or requirements that must be met to <br />achieve a specific, desired outcome in a design project. The TAC recommends the following design <br />imperatives for the Community Building Project: <br />• Prioritize sustainability and environmental stewardship <br />• The community building must have: <br />o Enough parking for community building users and current deficiencies <br />o Dedicated indoor programmable recreation space <br />o Multi-use, flexible gathering space <br />• Reflect Little Canada’s identity and “Maple Leaf Vibes” <br />• Relocate within Pioneer Park both tennis and basketball courts if displaced <br />
