Staff Report <br />To:Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council <br />From:Bill Dircks, Public Works Director <br />Date: December 17, 2025 <br />Re:Accept Resignation of Charlie Lehn and Authorize Hiring Public Works <br />Maintenance and Public Works Apprentice Positions <br />Action To Be Considered: <br />Motions to approve, table, or deny the following: <br />Accept resignation of Public Works employee Charlie Lehn <br />Authorize hiring of Public Works Maintenance I position <br />Authorize hiring of Public Works Apprentice position <br />Background: <br />Charlie Lehn submitted his resignation from the Public Works department. His last day will be <br />December 19. The department would like to expedite the hiring of his replacement, as the winter <br />season has already been busy. <br />The Public Works department also has funds allocated for an Apprentice position in 2026. The <br />Apprentice program has been very beneficial for the city and for those who have served as an <br />Apprentice. The Apprentice position collaborates with all departments in Public Works and <br />Parks to understand how the operations function and to enhance their skills for future <br />employment opportunities with Little Canada or another public organization. <br />Source Of Funds: <br />Both positions have been budgeted for in the 2026 General Fund. <br />Staff Recommendations: <br />Staff recommends accepting the resignation of Public Works employee Charlie Lehn and <br />authorizing the hiring of a Public Works Maintenance I position and a Public Works Apprentice <br />position.
