MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 11, 2012
would not increase response times as the units are always on the move. It
was noted that the Vadnais Heights response times are longer than Little
Canada's even though Allina has a presence in one of their fire stations.
The action plan for "Upgrade Web Site /Social Media" was reviewed.
The Administrator reported that City staff has done a lot of research on
this issue, and will be compiling a report for the Council's review.
"Market the Rice Street /Viking Drive /Highway 36 Site" action plan
was presented. The Administrator noted that RJ Marco was given the
right to market the site. He indicated that he contacted Reg Plowman of
RJ Marco relative to any interest in the site. Plowman indicated that it is
being marketed as a potential medical clinic site, with the Administrator
noting that the site has a restriction on it that it cannot be utilized for fast
food that serves burgers. This was the agreement with McDonalds when
the City did the land swap for the Viking Drive relocation project. The
Administrator suggested that given the bridge project was just completed
and the site cleared, the City could give RJ Marco additional time to
market the site or could go out to a Request For Proposals (REP). The
Council indicated that it would like a report from RJ Marco relative to
their efforts, potential interest, etc. Once the report is reviewed, the
Council felt a timeframe should be established relative to RJ Marco's right
to market this property.
The Council reviewed the proposed action plan for "Evaluate /Implement
Video Surveillance Program to Enhance Crime Prevention Efforts &
Consider Other Potential Uses ". The City Administrator noted that the
former Sheriff was promoting a program wherein the Sheriff's Department
would have camera systems available to monitor crime hot spots and to
serve as a deterrent. The new Sheriff is interested in moving forward with
this program, but has not yet worked out the details. It was the consensus
of the Council that a letter should be sent to the Sheriff expressing Little
Canada's continued interest in participating in this program, and asking
about the potential for the program to move forward.
"Continue to Move Forward with New Public Works Garage" action
plan was reviewed. The Administrator noted that the site has been
acquired, but in order to maximize the redevelopment potential of the area,
other properties should be added for form a larger redevelopment site.
The Administrator reported that McGough has expressed an interest in
being a part of this redevelopment effort, and we are waiting for a
response that should come any day. However, McGough does not want to
be the developer of the project. The Administrator suggested that he
follow up with McGough to determine if they are ready to move forward.
2
