of our lower priority stations and city hall. This would also greatly reduce the time and
manpower required to constantly set up and break down the generator at each station, and
free up personnel to monitor all stations as well as help clear streets and help alleviate
flooded streets.
Recommendation:
Public Works would recommend the purchase of a 100 kW generator as well as a smaller,
15,000 -watt generator to provide better cover during emergency power outage situations.
The 100 kW generator could also be used to power city hall. In addition, public works
would recommend researching the best means to bring in two additional generators in the
event of a major citywide catastrophe. This could be done by means of a rental
agreement or through city mutual aid. The best option is a guaranteed rental contract
with a generator company. The Ziegler agreement is risky as are agreements with other
cities due to the possibility of those cities needing the generators themselves and the issue
of different plug- types. Approximate cost of a used, refurbished 100 kW generator is
$50,000 and a new 15,000 -watt generator is $4000. Public Works will research other
generator dealers around the cities to see if they have guaranteed rental agreements.
5
