MEMO
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Lee Elfering, City Engineer
Subject: 2004 Street Improvements Project
Recommendation Award
Date: 4/23/04
Bids were received on Friday, April 23, 2004, for the Little Canada 2004 Street Improvements
Project. There were a total of five (5) bidders. The table below lists each bidder and their
respective total bid:
F. M. Frattalone
Northdale Construction
Danner Inc.
North Valley
C. S. McCrossan
$ 1,125,000.00
$ 1,179,432.20
$ 1,180,053.00
$ 1,207,191.26
$ 1,294,289.25
The feasibility completed in January 2004 estimated the construction cost at $1,471,395.00. The
engineer's estimate of probably cost at completion of the plans and specifications was
approximately $1,280,000.00. F.M. Frattalone's low bid of $1,125,000.00 is approximately 14%
below the final engineer's estimate. We will be tabulating the bids and will inform the City Council
of any modifications that may impact the award of the contract. However, at this time F.M.
Frattalone is the apparent low bidder and has successfully completed work in the City of Little
Canada in the past. Therefore, we would recommend granting authorization to award to them as
the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of $1,125,000.00 contingent on final tabulation and
acceptance of all the bids.
if you have any questions regarding this issue, please feel free to call.
C :Akvindows \TEMPVMema042304 -Rec. or Award.doc
