Mr. Hanson
March 1, 2004
Page Two
The table below outlines the options and some of the pros and cons associated with each.
Table 1
Little Canada Watermain Options
Option
Location
Pros
Cons
1
2nd Crossing near the middle of
Twin Lake Trail
Least expensive
option for supply
of Little Canada
watermain
Dead end length of 1400' at
the end of Twin Lake Trail.
Dead end length of 1900' at
the east side of Twin Lake
Blvd.
2
2 'd Crossing at the end of the
cul -de -sac on Twin Lake Trail
Twin Lake Trail is
looped
Dead end length of 1900' at
the east side of Twin Lake
Blvd.
3
2nd Crossing near the middle of
Twin Lake Trail and looping of
watermain to Twin Lake Court
No dead end
v atermain
Most expensive option.
Will require agreement with
Vadnais Heights.
City of Vadnais Heights Watermain
If City of Vadnais Heights watermain is utilized as the source of water for the area the length of
potential dead end watermain would be reduced to the 950 -feet on the west end of Twin Lake
Boulevard. It is very possible that this dead end could be eliminated in the future when water is
provided to the mobile home park north of Twin Lake Boulevard. It would be proposed to connect
to the existing Vadnais Heights watermain stub on Twin Lake Boulevard near Vadnais Boulevard.
To provide a looped system, watermain would also be extended to Centerville Road. The exact
alignment of the extension to Centerville Road would require additional research to identify
property owners willing to grant utility easements. The estimated construction costs do not include
any right -of- way /easement acquisition costs and it is assumed that Vadnais Heights would pay for
any over sizing costs above an 8 -inch main. We are working with Vadnais Heights to determine a
defined schedule for the installation of the Centerville Road watermain loop. We will provide this
information when available. Table 2 outlines the pros and cons of Option 4.
Table 2
Vadnais Heights Watermain Option
Option
Location
Pros
Cons
4
Connection to existing stub on
Twin Lake Boulevard.
Extension to Centerville Road
Least expensive
option overall
Require coordination efforts
to provide alignment for
extension to Centerville
Road.
Dead end length of 950' at
the west side of Twin Lake
Blvd.
C `,windows \TEMP \Itr 030104 Hanson.doc
- 2 9 -
