MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 25, 2012
and 4 p.m. The City Planner reported that he has verified the Center's
licensing with the State, and they do hold the appropriate licensing.
Justin Rath, Colliers hnternational representing the seller of the property,
commented that the operation is as described by the City Planner. He
noted that Hmong MN Senior Center proposes to occupy 50% of the
building and the two other tenants would remain as they have leases in
place.
The Program Director for Hmong MN Senior Center noted that they are
currently located in Maplewood and are looking for a larger space. The
adult day care center provides elders with day time social activities and
enjoying their retirements. The center will provide meals and monitor
clients to ensure that they are taking their meds and going to doctors'
appointments. Blesener asked if clients would stay overnight. The
Director replied that they will not.
Reis noted that the Center currently serves 80 clients. The Program
Director replied that that was correct. They are seeking additional space
so that they can expand to 100 clients. It was also reported that they have
one staff member per every 8 clients. The Director also noted that their
State license requires a specific amount of square footage per client.
Montour asked if at some point the Center would reach maximum. The
Director indicated that their licensing is for up to 100 clients. Montour
asked how potential clients become aware of the Center. The Director
replied that they gain clients through word -of -mouth and through
recommendations from social workers.
Blesener asked if clients pay a fee for transportation services to and from
the Center. The Program Director reported that their fees are typically
paid through insurance.
The Executive Director noted that they are a for - profit corporation. He
indicated that the Center currently has a waiting list of 30 potential clients
and would like to have a larger facility. He noted that the larger facility
will allow them to not only add clients, but also hire an additional 4
employees.
Blesener asked if at some point the Center would occupy the entire
building. The Program Director reported that the leases in place will be
honored, but indicated that in the future they may add medical and
chiropractic offices to the building which would help serve their clients.
There was no one else present from the general public wishing to
comment on this matter.
3
