515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: July 24, 2002
RE: Round Lake Pond
MAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scabze
Jim i.availe
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Manson
Attached are updated cost estimates for the work in the Round Lake storm water pond area. The
cost to stabilize the pond water level has increase from an estimated $24,000 to $40,000. My
original estimate did not include costs for the controls nor the rock swale to get the water to the
pond. Your first reaction maybe that these costs seem high, however, we have oversized this
well to so that we can use it to also stabilize the water level in the storm water pond that will be
built along Market Place Drive as part of that improvement project. I will happy to explain this
further detail at the Council meeting if requested.
Based on the revised cost estimates the total estimated cost of this work is $50,440. The Little
Canada Road project budget has sufficient funds to do this work.
Based on the above, it is requested that the City Council authorize staff to enter into
contracts to:
1) Install a well system with controls, rock swale and piping to maintain the
storm water level.
2) Purchase and install pond vegetation through the Ramsey - Washington
Metro Watershed District.
3) Place 2" of black dirt and hyro -seed the area around the pond.
H: \GregS \Round Lake Costs2.doc
