515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: July 19, 2002
RE: Boater's Outlet
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaVatle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
We received the proposed site and screening plan from Boater's outlet late this week (the final documents
were received on Friday morning). A copy of the site plan with their comments is attached. The status of
our review is as follows:
• The Fire Department feels the proposal is all right from their standpoint, subject to the
adequacy of the turning radius proposed in the drawing. They also noted that the restrictions
to access around the building on the east and north sides already exist. Therefore, this
proposal does not impact that issue.
• The Sheriff's Department has noted a number of recommendations to address crime
prevention. (Please note the two -page report attached and a follow -up e- mail.) It should be
noted that they are encouraging an open view to this area that is in contrast to our desire to
screen it from view. This may necessitate some other type of surveillance such as video
cameras.
• The City Engineer is reviewing the turning radius issue. He has not had time to complete this
analysis as of yet. It will be available for Wednesday's meeting.
• The City Planner was out of the office today. I will talk to him on Monday to obtain his
comments on this proposal. He will be present at Wednesday's meeting.
• I informed Mr. Kloskin that chain link with slats is not allowed in this zoning district. I-Ie
then mentioned a wood fence similar to that existing at Tom's Auto Sales on County Road C.
• Staff took some photos of the storage arrangements at Boater's Outlet current Location. They
are attached. It should be noted that this same staff member was aware of this site previously
and stated that substantial clean up of the site had occurred just prior to these photos being
taken.
• Staff report relative to Boater's Outlet code enforcement issues in the City of Roseville.
