Fahey COUNCIL Beverly Scalze Jim LaValle Matt Anderson Rick Montour ADMINISTRA'T'OR Joel R. 1-Ianson The Vadnais Heights Historical Society has expressed interest in the house we recently acquired at 104 E. Little Canada Road. As you may recall, this structure was originally constructed in 1875 and served as a school in Vadnais Heights. It was relocated to its present site around 1893. (The Little Canada Historical Society has looked at the structure and stated they have no interest in preserving it.) Given the fact we would demolish the structure, I felt it was reasonable to allow Vadnais Heights the opportunity to preserve a piece of their heritage. I would recommend that we ask for their decision as to whether or not they want the structure by June 12th (our first meeting). If they are not interested, we would proceed with obtaining quotes for demolition. Should they be interested in moving the structure to their community, I would propose we allow them until the end of July to do so. They would be responsible for all costs and permits associated with the move. We should also be named as an additional insured under any policies associated with this action. Lastly, they should secure the site (fencing around the basement and any other steps necessary to ensure a nuisance is not created) once the structure is removed and until such time we can complete demolition activities. If you agree with my recommendation, the Council should ratify that course of action. Otherwise, direction is needed as to how you would like staff to handle this matter. cc: Gerry Urban, City of Vadnais Heights Little Canada Historical Society
