Mr. Sam Roberto
Project BBXX- 01 -119A
May 24, 2001
Page 3
B.4. Groundwater Measurements
Groundwater was observed in the hollow-stern auger at a depth of approximately 9 feet as
Boring ST -2 was advanced. After auger withdrawal, groundwater was observed in the open
borehole of Borings ST -1 at a depth of approximately 6 '/ feet, and in the open borehole of
Boring ST -2 at a depth of 15 feet.
Though our period of observation was short, and more time would likely have been required for
water levels in the boreholes to stabilize, our measurements indicate that groundwater may be
located just below the lower boundary of the existing fill, within the swamp - deposited peat.
C. Evaluation and Analyses
C.1. Design Details
No design plans were available as this report was prepared. We have assumed, however, that it
would be desirable to build a two -story, wood -frame structure on the lot, perhaps with a partial
or fidl basement. We have further assumed that bearing wall loads associated with such a
structure will not exceed 4 kips per lineal foot.
We have attempted to describe our understanding of the proposed construction to the extent it
was reported to us by others. Depending on the extent of available information, assumptions
may have been made based on our experience with similar projects. If we have not correctly
recorded or interpreted the project details, we should be notified. New or changed information
could require additional evaluation, analyses and /or recommendations.
C.2. Building Support
The existing fill, and the swamp - deposited peat present below it, is unsuitable for building
support. Peat is highly compressible, and the presence of peat below the existing fill indicates
that the existing fill was not likely intended for structural support. The low penetration
resistances recorded in the existing fill further indicate that the existing fill was not well
