Fahey
COUNCIL,
Jini CaValle
'Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
Bill Blesener
DATINls[R/l [OR
Joel R. Hanson
Some of the residents living along Stark Street have requested that the no- parking zone on the east
side of Stark Street from 2602 Stark Street north to Old County Road C be removed. It is their
feeling that with the street reconstructed to the same width as the southern section, the no- parking
zone is no longer needed. This no parking zone was created back in 1986 because the street was
very narrow in this area.
For your infomrration, Stark Street is now 30 feet wide between the faces of the barrier curb on each
side.
I have looked at the street from a public safety perspective considering access issues related to
emergency vehicles. The following vehicle widths are provided for your reference:
Plow Truck 11 feet (width from wing to side mirror)
Fire Truck 10 feet (width at side mirrors)
Full Size Pickup Truck 8.5 feet (width at side mirrors)
Compact Car 6.5 feet (width at side mirrors)
Parking on Both Sides of the Street -
Utilizing the dimensions above, if vehicles are parked on both sides of the street, traffic must pass
through a restricted width of only 14 to 18 feet. That only allows about 7 to 9 feet per vehicle, if two
vehicles coming from opposite directions at the same time happen to meet. However, due to the low
volume of traffic on this street the likelihood of this occurrence is low.
No Parking on One Side of the Street —
If the no- parking zone were to be retained on the east side of the street, the restricted width would
increase to between 22 and 24 feet which would be sufficient for maintenance and safety vehicles to
pass.
No Parking On Both Sides of the Street —
In some instances, the City has restricted on- street parking on both sides of the street. In order to
accommodate residents who periodically require on- street parking due to special events, the City
issues on- street parking permits upon request.
