Repair /Replace Picnic Tables
Several of the 45 -50 picnic tables in various parks are in need of new tops and seats. Existing
damaged wood boards will be replaced with recycled plastic pieces. (Future on -going replacement
maintenance will also be done using plastic.)
SP Flag Pole /Shelter Lighting
Security lighting is needed under the main Spooner shelter and recent electrical receptacles added by
Canadian Days will now enable us to install a flagpole light so the existing flagpole can be better
utilized.
Drinking fountain — Pioneer
Estimates derived from recent drinking fountain installed at Rondeau Park tell us that actual cost
would be approximately $12,000. Increase in costs primarily due to long water service needed. Staff
recommends elimination of this item at this time.
Spooner Garage Addition
The existing garage is in need of new shingles, some roof boards, and fascia material. Storage
evaluation needs of Parks Maintenance, Canadian Days, and Little Canada Recreation Association
are currently being evaluated and early indications are that adding on to the existing garage while
conducting needed repairs may be the best method to solve current storage problems.
Pioneer Park Ballfield Fencing/Warning Track Improvement 2/2
Pioneer outfield fencing is in need of repair in some sections. Along with that, a warning track is
desirable on all four fields to improve safety. As the fence fabric needs to be at least temporarily
removed to install the warning track material, it would be more economical to do both projects at
once. (Two fields in Fall, 2004, and two fields in Fall, 2005, when only two fields are needed to
conduct leagues.)
Trails /Park Development
Rondeau Park
The 2003 amount represents the bid costs to complete the park along with overhead. The cost of the
playground equipment has been moved to the 10% Fund.
Trail Connections
The trails program has been moved to the Infrastructure fund to match expenditure with the franchise
fee source.
Public Works Maintenance
12" Wood Chipper
Tree trimming needs to be done throughout the city to provide safer and easier access to maintain /use
our infrastructure. The purchase of a good used wood chipper for $5,000 will enable staff to trim
trees along city streets, easements, and in our parks more often as both scheduled work and fill -in
work. We have tried to borrow other cities chippers, however, this equipment is not always available
when we need it. A new chipper costs approximately $18,000 and the cost to rent a chipper is about
5
