MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
MARCH 13, 2008
Duray asked the size of the commercial dumpster being proposed.
Maietta reported that it would be a 10-yard dumpster. He indicated that
he operates a residential roofing and siding business and does a lot of
storm damage work. Maietta indicated that this creates additional
disposal needs.
Duray asked why the 4-yard dumpster is not being stored in the trash
enclosure. Maietta replied that there is no room for it, and that is why
he was going to build a larger garage.
Socha asked why a commercial dumpster was needed on the property if
Temo Sunrooms builds its sunrooms on site. Maietta reported that the
assembly of a sum•oom on site does not generate a lot of trash; therefore,
he does not have a dumpster at a sunroom construction site. However,
the roofing and siding aspects of his business does generate more
disposal needs. Maietta reported that he does have an on-site dumpster
for roofing jobs. However, siding jobs take longer and most cities will
only allow the dumpster at the job site for a limited amount of time or
on the street for a day or two. Therefore, he would like to have a
commercial dumpster at 2905 Country Drive to bring the siding debris
back to the shop location.
Knudsen noted that Maietta is asking that the larger commercial
dumpster be allowed approximately 25% of the time. Knudsen asked
what would determine when the dumpster is there. Maietta replied that
it would be a matter of demand. The dumpster would be utilized for the
storm damage repair portion of his business, allowing him to bring trash
back from the job site.
Barraclough asked for additional clarification on the two dumpsters.
Maietta reported that the 4-yard dumpster would be permanent and
would support his sum•oom business. That dumpster would be emptied
once per week. A 10-yard commercial dumpster would come and go
and Maietta reported that it came and went four times during 2007.
Duray asked when Maietta would be building the up to 800-square foot
garage/trash enclosure. Maietta reported that it is difficult to project the
future of his industry, therefore, he could not estimate when he would
build the garage. Maietta stated that if he can store his display trailers
outside, that reduces some of his need for the garage.
Knudsen stated that the City tries to work with business owners, but
pointed out that outdoor storage has been a significant issue in the City.
He pointed out that this particular business is directly adjacent to a
residential area. Knudsen also noted that the concept of the
office/office-showroom business for this area was that there would be
-4-
