month, the Citv would pay the cost of health, opt -out, and life insurance pro -rated <br />based on the number of days the employee worked in the month in question <br />versus the total number of standard working days in that same month. <br />Sick Leave and Vacation — Pages 17 and 20 <br />Below are several proposed amendments relating to Sick Leave. It is felt that <br />these changes will provide better controls and a review process relating to sick <br />leave usage. As you will note below, the proposal includes a provision for the <br />conversion of four sick leave days to two vacation days as a reward for those <br />exceptional employees who use no sick leave in a one -year period (7/1 thru 6/30). <br />The policy currently provides for accrual of vacation and sick leave benefits on a <br />monthly basis. With the recent change in accounting software, the payroll <br />program accrues these benefits on a bi- weekly basis. Staff is proposing that the <br />Personnel Policy be amended accordingly. Total annual accruals will remain the <br />same. <br />G. Regular Attendance — Page 17 <br />Regular attendance at work is required of all employees as a condition of <br />employment. Repeated absence or tardiness from work regardless of the reason, <br />is considered by the City as a failure to meet this obligation and is grounds for <br />progressive discipline, up to and including termination of employment. <br />In an effort to manage attendance within the City, an attendance guideline has <br />been established for sick time usage of 40 hours within a continuous 12 -month <br />period. Supervisors will monitor sick time usage by employees and take the <br />appropriate performance management steps to ensure consistent and appropriate <br />usage. <br />G. This statement must indicate the nature of the sickness and <br />Administration of Sick Leave. Subject to Paragraph G, the following <br />procedures will be followed in administering the sick leave policy of the <br />City. <br />1.
