Hanson MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director DATE: May 18, 2001 RE: Maple Lane Trail /St. John's Parking Lot As you may recall, the Maple Lane Trail and St. John's Parking Lot projects were included as alternates in the 2001 Street Reconstruction and Utility Improvements. However, at the request of the landowners adjacent to the St. John's Parking Lot we bid these two projects separately. In addition to the required normal advertising, we also sent bid packages to six contractors who have worked on similar projects for the adjacent landowners. On May2, 2001 we received only two bids. The results were are follows: Maple Lane Trail T.A. Schifsky & Sons $5,757.30 (2001 Street Reconstruction & Utility Low Bidder) 1. Buck Blacktop, Inc. 2. Quality Asphalt, Inc. 3. Earth Wizards, Inc. 4. Daily & Sons Blacktopping, Inc. 5. Frattalone Paving, Inc. 6. Arcade Asphalt, Inc. No Bid No Bid No Bid 12,053.50 7,985.00 No Bid St. John's Parking Lot $55,770.85 No Bid No Bid No Bid 68,440.80 56,669.70 No Bid T.A Schifsky & Sons is the low bidder for the 2001 Street Reconstruction and Utility Improvements project and their bids are lower than those received on May2, 2001. Based on the above, I recommend that the bids received on May 2, 2001 be rejected and the work be awarded to T.A. Schifsky & Sons as part of the 2001 Street Reconstruction and Utility Improvement project. PAGE 126
