period beginning January 1, 2002 January 1, 1997 and ending December 31, 2001. <br />III. DEFINITIONS. For purposes of this Contract, the following terms shall have the following <br />meanings: <br />A. Additional Collection Service. Refuse in excess of the designated volume -base per <br />residential dwelling unit or residential dwelling units desiring collection of items <br />from a location other than the boulevard adjoining the curb. <br />B. Bulky items. Large household items including refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, <br />carpeting and padding, mattresses, chairs, couches, <br />tables, and other such items of furniture which are too large for one person to pick <br />C. Collection Service. Collection service is a private operation engaged in collection and <br />transportation of refuse, yard waste and recyclables. <br />D. Day- Certain Collection. Day - Certain collection is a City- approved plan for weekly <br />collection services by an established day- certain schedule. This schedule requires <br />refuse, yard waste, and recyclable collection on the same day of each week and is <br />based on five (5) day, Monday through Friday, working week. The only exceptions <br />to the "day- certain" plan shall be during those weeks in which occur legal holidays. <br />E. Garbage. Garbage is organic waste, including discarded material resulting from the <br />handling, processing, storage, preparation, serving, and consumption of food. <br />F. Independent Contractor. Independent contractor means person or persons authorized by <br />the Contractor to perform refuse collection services within the City. <br />G. Mismailings. Notices sent to residential dwelling units advertising rates or services not <br />available under this contract. <br />H. Recyclables. Recyclables are reusable or re- processable materials approved and agreed <br />to by the parties hereto. Recyclables may include such items as newspaper, #1 &2 <br />plastics, magazines, junk mail, corrugated cardboard, ledger paper, bi -metal cans, <br />aluminum, and glass. Recyclables specifically excludes refuse and yard waste. <br />I. Refuse. Refuse is putrescible and nonputrescible solid waste from residences including <br />garbage and rubbish, and specifically excluding yard waste, recyclables, and toxic <br />and hazardous wastes. Refuse further excludes industrial, commercial, agricultural, <br />and construction garbage or rubbish and wastes. <br />J. Residential Dwelling Unit.
