I sent a letter to McDonald Battery asking for an inspection and evaluation of the tower by a
qualified engineer due to the possibility of heat damage. I spoke with State Farm Insurance
agent Paul Strauss, McDonald's insurance carrier. He said that they would have the tower
inspected by the firm of American Engineering and Testing, Mr. Dick Kielty, a certified
structural engineer and metallurgist will conduct the testing. Mr. Strauss will contact me to let
me know when the testing will be done.
Shed
The shed along the north side of the property is where the fire occurred. It was there when
Antler owned the building. It appears to be a total loss. Once it is cleaned up it won't be of
concern to us because it will no longer exist.
2950 Rice Street
Rice Street Bicycles & 2952, Laundromat
As far as I can determine, this has been the same owner since construction.
There have been some complaints about trash and debris at the rear of the bicycle shop, and the
use of a semi trailer as storage. These are current concerns. The Fire Marshal has spoken with the
owner. We are working with the business to correct the violations.
2954 Rice Street
The Rice Street Agency
This is an office building. When the area was developed around 1971, it was the office for the
Antler Company, the property developers. I have no complaints on file for this property.
2956 Rice Street
Thomas Thul
This is an apartment building. In the past three years I show one complaint for illegal storage of
boats and vehicles at the rear of the building. This was immediately rectified when called to the
owner's attention. There was also a complaint of some furniture and debris. This was also
cleaned up promptly.
A motorhome belonging to the owner, Thomas Thul, was parked on this property, but was next
to the tower on McDonald's and was destroyed in the fire.
2962 Rice Street
Dirk Bordsen
Page 40
