MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
OCTOBER 11, 2001
Keis questioned the need for Conditional Use Permits for accessory
garages if the total square footage is less than 1,500 square feet. The
Planner noted that the reason a CUP is required is due to the potential
negative impact that a detached building can have on a property. The
CUP process allows for City review and the ability to place conditions on
the detached building.
The City Planner reported that he did not have an ordinance amendment
prepared for the Commission's review this evening. He recommended
that this matter be tabled until the November meeting for action at that
time.
Knudsen recommended tabling action on an amendment to the Zoning
Code relative to accessory buildings allowed on residential properties until
the November Planning Commission meeting.
Motion seconded by Duray.
Motion carried 6 — 0.
TEMPORARY The City Planner indicated that the City has experienced problems with
SIGNS enforcement of the temporary sign ordinance, especially for multi- tenant
buildings. As a result, the Council has asked that the ordinance be
reviewed to determine if there are any changes that are necessary. The
Planner indicated that he has been reviewing the ordinances that are in
place in the surrounding cities. He noted that the City of Vadnais Heights
requires a deposit for temporary signs in addition to the permit fee. If the
sign is removed at the time the permit expires, the deposit is then returned.
This deposit has been a good enforcement tool for Vadnais Heights.
ADJOURN
The Planner indicated that he will bring additional information on this
matter to the Commission at a later date.
Keis recommended that the meeting be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Carson.
Motion carried 6 — 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
Respectfully submi ted,
Kathy Glaa'er
Deputy Clerk
Page 16
