Hanson <br />Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Joel Hanson & Stephen Grittman <br />DATE: October 5, 2001 <br />RE: Little Canada — Knox Lumber /Christ Community Church <br />Rezoning - Northwest File # 758,09 <br />Based upon the direction of the City Council at our last meeting, staff met with <br />representatives (Pastor Dick Daniels, Paul Schroeder of URS, and John Nicholson) of <br />Christ Community Church (CCC) on October 3, 2001. At the opening of this meeting, <br />staff emphasized that even if we agreed that their proposals would be good additions to <br />our community, the overriding issue must be consistency with land use considerations. <br />Staff did not have a proposal as to how we could address inconsistencies with our <br />Comprehensive Plan and existing land use patterns. Based upon this meeting, a <br />summary of the other key points of our discussion is as follows: <br />City's Need for Additional Recreation Facilities: <br />Jim Morelan, Director of Parks & Recreation, stated that our current facilities (ballfields, <br />soccer fields, and gymnasium space) are not now being used to capacity. He did not <br />see the need to add any facilities in the foreseeable future. He did comment that if <br />additional facilities were available, he would consider making use of them to increase <br />programming flexibility. <br />Representatives of the Church stated they would be flexible in developing facilities that <br />would accommodate the needs and desires of the City /community; especially those <br />Page 6 <br />
