The
biggest problem is the high speed of traffic coming South
from around the corner. Centerville Rd is posted at 40
miles per hour but the traffic often is, or at least seems,
much faster; such as about 55 miles per hour. This gives
little time to move onto the road.
The problem is aggravated by the fact that the speed limit
coming North on Centerville has just been raised to 40 miles
per hour 860 feet before the Allen intersection and the
traffic is accelerating. This makes it hard to judge speed
and risk, and puts the drivers coming North in the mood to
"go" instead of waiting for an incoming car.
Turning off Centerville Road going North also is a dangerous
experience. To make the turn one must slow down to about
twenty miles per hour, yet the traffic behind has just been
informed that the speed limit has been raised to 40 and is
thus accelerating until they notice the car ahead signaling
and slowing down for the turn. The spacing is reduced to a
dangerous distance and many following drivers become very
aggravated. They race around the exiting car at as high a
speed and as high an acceleration and noise level as their
vehicle will accommodate. In short they are very angry. We
consider it a dangerous situation to make drivers angry with
road and traffic conditions, and are recommending a solution
to the problem.
The traffic out of the North driveway for Pioneer Park must
also experience some of these problems so a good solution
should help them too.
Page 12
