The rest of the streetscape might rely on more traditional <br />patterns of trees and other landscape elements combined with pedestrian - scaled streetlighting (Figure 3). <br />Due to concerns related to salt build -up at the edge of the roadway, the actual boulevard area might be <br />constructed with pavers or other hard surfaces in the "commercial" portions of the street. Plantings below <br />trees would be used to break up the expanse of pavers in this zone. More residential zones might be <br />developed with grass boulevards. <br />Figure 2: Streetscape patterns might be more architectural as the street and the community are 'introduced" with a greater <br />emphasis on landscape treatments beyond that initial treatment zone. <br />Figi re 3: Trees might be grouped with plantings below to reinforce the street edge. "Architectural" elements might be used to <br />define the groupings and extend the character other streetscape treatments. Streetlights would be pedestrian in scale, <br />and would be distinct from the landscape groupings. <br />
