Present at the meeting were Micheal Schroeder (Hoisington
Koegier Group, Inc.), Greg Schroeder (City of Little Canada), Joel Hanson (City of Little
Canada), Terry Maurer (Howard R. Green Company), and Lee Elfering (Howard R. Green
Company).
The minimum street width using a shared center left turn lane would be 42 feet face -of -curb to
face -of -curb. This design would include a 14 -foot shared center left turn lane, and two 12 -foot
travel lanes with a 2 -foot reaction zone. Please see the attached proposed typical section
sheet. Four feet of bituminous would be eliminated from the 6 -foot shoulder /bike lane on each
side of the street and all raised center medians would also be eliminated from the west end of
Little Canada Road. A 6 -foot concrete sidewalk would be placed on the north side of Little
Canada Road 8 feet from the face of the curb and 1 foot off of the street right -of -way line. The 8
feet between the face of the curb and the sidewalk would be an amenity corridor for tree
planting, lights, planter boxes, etc. This 8 feet would also serve as needed snow storage in the
winter. With the reduced width of the new section we are investigating the possibility of adding
right turn lanes at the intersections of Little Canada Road with Middle Street and Market Place
Drive while maintaining a minimum of 6 feet for snow storage and amenities.
The sidewalk along the south side of Little Canada Road would be left out of the design in order
to eliminate the need to acquire additional right -of -way from the Venetian Inn. As discussed
previously, the construction of an urban section with curb and gutter will eliminate one row of
parking on the north side of the Venetian Inn building. The construction of the 8 -foot amenity
zone will not impact the parking in the Venetian Inn parking lot any further and is proposed to be
constructed along the entire property.
0: /PROJ /805750J /0060 /Itr 3 -3 -00 Council.doc
1326 Energy Park Drive • St. Paul, MN 551
Page 8 44 -9446 toll free 888/368 -4389
