to properly prepare recyclables for collection. If the Contractor fails to
pick up recyclables at a residential dwelling unit because it was
improperly prepared, it is the Contractor's responsibility to immediately
inform in writing the residential dwelling unit on how to properly prepare
the recyclables so that they will be acceptable for pick up. The
Contractor shall also inform the City of said notice when the residence
has received multiple notices. Any change in material preparation and
separation requirements must be approved by the City prior to
implementing such change and the Contractor shall bear full
responsibility for notifying residents of changes.
4. Bulky Item Pickup, Each residence is allowed to dispose of up to three "bulky
items" per year as defined by this contract. The Contractor shall collect,
transport, dispose of, and /or process these items without additional fees or
charges to the resident as specified below:
a. Clarification of Count. In most cases, the counting of a bulky item will
be self-evident; i.e. a refrigerator will count as one item, a couch will
count as one item, and a sink will count as one item. A sectional sofa
consisting of three or more pieces will count as two items. However,
there are instances when a set of items shall be counted as only one item
such as (2) rims with /without tires or two individual tires, and a
computer and related periphery with the exception of a cathode ray tube
(CRT) which is prohibited.
b. Frequency of Collection. Contractor shall provide service to residents as
scheduled by City. Collections shall take place on the same day of the
week as the resident's refuse pickup, with the exception of appliance
pickup. The City will schedule appliance pickup and the pickup day shall
be arranged with each respective contractor.
c. Process for Collection, The resident shall contact the City directly to
request pickup of the bulky item(s). The resident shall place the item
curbside for pickup on the designated day for pickup as instructed by the
City.
d. Reporting. The City shall be responsible for instituting a system to
account for the number of items picked up per residence, per year. The
City shall notify the Contractor when a residence has exceeded their
allotted three bulky items to enable the contractor to bill for any items
beyond three pursuant to Attachment 13.
e. Pickup in Excess of Three Items. The pickup of any bulky items in
excess of three (3) within any calendar year shall be subject to the charges
as described in Attachment 13.
-9-
10
