MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />JULY 19, 2012 <br />ten priority ranking at that meeting. The top ten projects would be ranked <br />in order of importance. It was also noted that there are two <br />Commissioners absent this evening, and it is preferable to have the full <br />Commission present to finalize the listing. <br />AUGUST The Director noted that the next Parks Commission meeting is scheduled <br />MEETING for Thursday, August 2 "d, the same night as the Ice Cream Social. It was <br />SCHEDULE the consensus of the Commission to reschedule their meeting to Thursday, <br />August 16`x', at 7:30 p.m. <br />REQUEST The Commission requested ajoint Workshop with the City Council for <br />WORKSHOP Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. to review the Park and Trail <br />WITH CITY Improvement Program Priority Ranking. The City Clerk reported that <br />COUNCIL this request will be put on the City Council's July 25th agenda for action. <br />ICE CREAM Steinert reported that the Ice Cream Social will be held on Thursday, <br />SOCIAL August 2 ", at Spooner Park from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a <br />K -9 Demonstration by the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, fire <br />trucks on display, clowns, and a puppet show. Free root beer floats are <br />being sponsored by Culvers and their staff will be on hand to serve the <br />floats. <br />3006 The Director reported that the owner of 3006 LaBore Road is trying to <br />LAHORE sell his property and has approached the City about acquisition of the <br />ROAD — back of the property for trail purposes. The property owner is proposing <br />TRAIL he sell the City approximately 2 /3rds of his lot. <br />EASEMENT <br />Sanders reviewed a diagram showing the location of a proposed trail <br />improvement through this area. It was noted that the section of trail that <br />would cross 3006 LaBore Road is at the far back of the lot, i.e. the eastern <br />20 feet of the property. Sanders noted that there is some high ground in <br />this area and most of the mid - section of the lot is wetland. <br />The Commission discussed this issue, and the consensus was that the City <br />only pursue the minimum amount of land necessary for the trail. <br />SAND The Director provided the Commission with some articles relative to a <br />WASPS problem that the City of Minneapolis is having with sand wasps in some <br />of its parks. The Director reported that some have been found in some of <br />our City's parks, and the Parks Department is researching how to deal <br />with these pests. In the meantime, the parks will be posted notifying users <br />of the problem. The Director pointed out that from the information he has <br />reviewed, sand wasps rarely sting people. <br />6 <br />
