Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: July 9, 1999
RE: False Alarm Fees for Bigos Property Management (Lakeside Apartments)
Attached is correspondence received from Bigos Management relative to the false alarm fees
they have incurred since their purchase of the property in February 1999. They are asking for
any consideration the Council would be kind enough to grant to reduce or eliminate the fees they
have incurred. The false alarm situation and associated fees are as follows:
03/16/99 at 4:33 p.m. $0
03/19/99 at 12:11 p.m. 0
03/25/99 at 6:07 p.m. 250
03/25/99 at 8:06 p.m. 250
03/27/99 at 6:37 p.m. 500
05/10/99 at 6:24 p.m. 500
05/20/99 at 5:58 p.m. 500
Total: $2,000
In considering this matter, it needs to be understood that all of these are valid false alarm
charges. The Fire Department did respond to these calls with manpower and equipment. The
calls in March were likely associated with painting operations occurring within the property.
Our Fire Marshal, Duane Williams had informed the painters that the alarm company should be
notified of this activity so that false alarms would not be reported. Management staff was also
informed of this action by Mr. Williams.
From a positive standpoint, Bigos Management is installing a new alarm system within this
complex. As you may know, this property has been a long- standing problem in terms of false
alarms. Therefore, this new alarm system may help alleviate that concem.
PAGE 180
