Hanson <br />In an effort to maintain an efficient and cost effective lighting system, City Staff has <br />examined the current street lighting policy adopted in December 1985 focusing on <br />placement and future development. <br />The purpose of our current policy is to establish the guidelines and cost responsibilities <br />pertaining to city road lighting and future locations. The street lighting system operated <br />by the City of Little Canada includes lighting for all main collector streets and <br />thoroughfares within the City, as well as lighting many intersections and cul -de -sacs that <br />lead in and out of residential areas. <br />Currently, the City of Little Canada incurs the costs for 185 overhead lights, 74 custom <br />underground service lights, 15 city owned lights (non -group 5 rate) and zero at the <br />group 5 rate. The NSP monthly rates for these street lighting fixtures are: <br />100 watt <br />$ 8.85 over -head lights <br />14.75 underground service lights <br />3.95 (City owned lighting over head lighting) <br />5.45 Group 5 rate (underground service) <br />The City Staff conducted a street light survey of our neighboring communities pertaining <br />to the location criteria; distance between consecutive lights and how is street light <br />placement is determined within each city. Each of the cities polled had a formal street <br />lighting policy. The survey is attached. <br />Based upon this survey and the fact compliance with our existing policy would be very <br />expensive, the City Staff recommends the following changes to the current street <br />lighting policy: <br />1.
