MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 22, 1994
LEEWARD WAY/
ALLEN AVE.
THOROUGHFARE
PLAN
FIRE TRUCK
PURCHASE
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 94 -6 -151 - AUTHORIZING THE COUNCIL TO GO
INTO CLOSED SESSION FOLLOWING THE REGULAR MEETING TO
DISCUSS PENDING LITIGATION AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY
ATTORNEY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Scalze, Hanson, Pedersen, Morelan.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
The City Planner presented to the Council a report
outlining options for a Leeward Way /Allen Avenue
thoroughfare plan. The Planner pointed out that this
is information which can be used as a planning tool
when further development is proposed in the area.
The City Administrator reported that the Little Canada
Fire Department has received bids from two vendors for
construction of a new fire truck. The Fire Department
is unanimously recommending the purchase of the Pierce
truck even though the bid may be slightly higher than
the one submitted by General Safety Equipment Corp.
The Fire Department feels the added benefits of the
Pierce truck outweigh the added cost.
The Administrator pointed out that the City would be
responsible for $250,000 toward the cost of the new
pumper truck, with the Fire Department agreeing to pay
the balance. A large portion of the $250,000 would
come from the monies reimbursed the City by the Fire
Department for the purchase of the ladder truck.
The City Administrator reported that in analyzing the
bids, he first determined that payment -in -full for the
truck upon order was the best option for the City.
This was based on a 200 day delivery date. However,
Pierce has indicated a 240 day delivery date, which
reduces the cost advantages for the City in making full
payment upon delivery. The Administrator reported that
after further analysis it appears that paying for the
chassis at the time of frame -up, and the balance upon
delivery would be the City's best option. The City
Administrator reported that he would confirm this.
5
Page 20
