MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />August 6, 1998 <br />perhaps a small garden area. <br />Johnson stated that there is a piece of property on Jackson St. that she would like to see <br />purchased for parkland, but as the City keeps buying houses there is a concern this would not <br />happen. She stated that it could be developed for a play area and basketball court. <br />The Director stated that he and the City Administrator had met with the property owner about <br />two years ago and it was felt that his asking price was out of line. <br />Christiansen said that he thought the Round Lake Acquisition was a priority with the City <br />right now. <br />Johnson moved that the Commission approve the use of $75,940.00 from the Park Land <br />Dedication Fund to assist in the purchase of the homes along Round Lake. <br />Motion seconded by Bianchi. <br />Motion carried 7 -0. <br />TRAIL Smith and Sanders passed out a trail system context plan, a preliminary cost estimate and a <br />SUB- list of potential grants available (attached), which could apply to trails in need of development <br />COMMITTEE Smith stated that an assessment should be done to decide what is needed in regard to upgrades <br />REPORT repair or amenities (signs, map signs, brochures etc.). <br />She stated that the Commission could take the cost estimate sheet and cross- reference it with <br />the priority list. Smith asked that everyone go through the information handed out before the <br />next meeting so a decision could be made at the next meeting as to priorities and which <br />grants to pursue. <br />Sanders stated that he had done many applications for grants and would be willing to work <br />on it with Smith's and the Director's help. <br />Christensen wanted it noted that the Trail Sub - Committee met on July 30, 1998 and did an <br />excellent job. The members of the Sub - Committee are: Smith, Sanders, Bianchi, Anderson, <br />& Schabacker. <br />Smith said Spooner Park should be upgraded and she felt it could meet ADA standards. <br />Sackett was concerned with ongoing maintenance costs that would be incurred for the City <br />with the upkeep of new trails. Smith said that would have to be addressed when the grant <br />application is make. <br />Page 2 <br />
