* August 3 -7 "All American Girl Hockey School" (Daily: 8:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.) <br />* Sept. -Dec. "USA Player Development Training" (Weekly: Sat. Mom. Sessions) <br />* November "Developing the Complete Hockey Player" Clinic (Half -Day Clinic) <br />Even though there are numerous hockey programs being offered for females today, there exists a <br />disappropriate number of urban girls who actually are able to attend. In addition to the financial constraints of the <br />sport, single parent families do not always have accessible transportation to these training programs. Therefore, the <br />scholarship aide that is available through the All- American Girl Program, provides for transportation, financial <br />aide, and if necessary, living accommodations for qualifying outstate participants. <br />To best meet the needs of the population this program has targeted to serve (urban area females), <br />Ramsey County rinks located in the St. Paul locale have been designated as training sites. Some participants will <br />even be within walking or car pool distance from their homes, thus creating momentum for programs to grow in <br />their community. <br />PROGRAM OBJECTIVES <br />In order to address all the components in nurturing the "total" development of the female student - athlete, <br />the All- American Girl Hockey Program will be divided in the following format: <br />* On -Ice Training - <br />* Off -Ice Development - <br />* Life Skills Education - <br />40% (skating, stick handling, skills and technique instruction) <br />20% (in -line training, physical conditioning, athletic agility, nutrition) <br />40% (esteem building sessions, academic and career counseling, <br />lifestyle decision making, female issues discussions) <br />Ranked below are objectives that the hockey program will be designed to accomplish: <br />- OBJECTIVE- <br />1) Encourage hockey enthusiasts who otherwise are <br />unable to attend to participate in an educational <br />experience designed to enhance their athletic, academic <br />and personal development. <br />Page 104 <br />-S I'RATEGY- <br />Identify and then invite "at risk" and <br />underprivileged individuals by contacting hockey <br />associations, coaches, and program coordinators <br />who can make referrals. <br />
