JRN 14 '98 03:41PM RCSO GENERAL INV
P.2
TO: Joel Hanson
City Manager
City of Little Canada
FROM: Gary Kollnuut
Communications Director
Ramsey Co Sheriff Dept
DATE: January 14, 1998
SUBJ: Request For Tower Space
The Ramsey County Sheriff Communication Center provides Dispatch services for 5 Fire
Departments within Ramsey County which includes the Little Canada Fire Dept.
All of the Fire Departments which we serge have long requested that our Communication Center
add to its capabilities the Fire Mutual Aid Channel which we do not currently have.
We are now in the process of replacing all of our aging base stations to inolude our Fire Base
Stations. We would like to add the Mutual Aid Channel to our new Base stations. However, the
frequency of the Mutual Aid Channel is too close to our primary fire dispatch channel to
collocate it at the same site. We therefor, are seeking a new site to install this transmitter and to
relocate our standby primary fire dispatch base station. Currently both our primary and standby
Fire transmitters are located at the same site. We would hike some physical separation of them in
the event of a natural or man made disaster.
We ask that we be pernvitted to locate both our standby Primary Fire Transmitter and new
Mutual Aid Transmitter on your water tower.
We would like to place a two frequency transmitter inside the water tower base. The size of the
transmitter is a cabinet roughly 3 ft x 4 ft x2 ft, A cabinet providing battery back up may also be
provided the size of which would not exceed that of the transmitter. We would like to instal a
cellwave antenna Model PD220 which is approximately 20 ft high for the transmitters. We
would like to install the antenna at or near the top of the water tower so that the antenna oan
"see" in all directions. We ask that someone from your staff dictate to us the exact location.
The transmitters would operate on 154.220 MHz and 154.295 MHz with an output of 125 watts.
Our Communication Center and the Fire Departments which we serve would be very grateful for
your cooperation.
If you have any questions, please call me at 481-1318.
Page 85
