515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
June 4, 1997
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Administrative Assistant
RE: Commission Attendance Requirements
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morel=
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The following are the results of a survey on commission attendance requirements:
Falcon Heights — This city's ordinance merely states "Failure to attend
meetings regularly shall be one basis for removal ".
Maplewood — Their ordinance does not contain an attendance requirement.
However, they do have a "Job Description" for the Parks & Recreation
Commission. This job description states "Attend and participate in
Regular monthly meeting and special meetings of the Commission ".
Roseville — No attendance policy.
Shoreview — Their ordinance states members shall endeavor to maintain an
annual attendance record for all regular meetings of at least 80% or miss
not more than three meetings.
Vadnais Heights — A commission member who is absent from three (3)
consecutive meetings or who is absent from four (4) or more meetings
in any calendar year, shall be considered to have constructively resigned
and that commissioner's position shall then be filled in the manner set
forth in the city code for such commission.
If the Council feels that an attendance policy should be adopted, it would be staff's
recommendation to consider one similar to that of Vadnais Heights. Staff further
recommends that such a policy be put in ordinance form and referred to both the Planning
Commission and the Parks & Recreation Commission for their comments. Once
comments are received from the Commissions, staff will schedule consideration by the
Council.
Page 50
