Hanson <br />Below are the results of a survey of surrounding cities on the topic of historical societies <br />and participation on the part of these cities in funding/supporting these groups: <br />Arden Hills — Does not have a historical society. <br />Falcon Heights — Does not have a historical society. <br />Maplewood — This city is just getting started. They established a Historical Society <br />Commission whose mission is to form a Historical Society. $1,000 in funding has been <br />provided from the city's charitable gambling fund. There are very few members at this <br />point. They only have a few historical records — no artifacts. Records are stored in a <br />couple of locked boxes at city hall. Meetings are held at city hall. If additional funding <br />is needed in the future, they feel the city will be willing to provide it. <br />New Brighton — This city has a historical society. The city provides $500 in funding per <br />year. The city also mails out the historical society's newsletter approximately 7 or 8 <br />times per year to its 100 to 150 members. This historical is basically self - sufficient. <br />They are housed in a renovated depot that is located on parkland. The building was <br />donated to the historical society and moved to a location in one of the City's parks. The <br />building was moved and renovated solely through the efforts of historical society <br />volunteers and donations. <br />North St. Paul — This city has a historical society. The city provides approximately <br />$1,000 in funding per year, in addition to in -kind services (pays utilities for historical <br />society building, does maintenance on building, etc.), This historical society also gets <br />annual donations from the Legion, Lions, VFW, etc. <br />The North St. Paul Historical Society has a building which was constructed on city <br />property in the 1980's.
