At the last council
meeting on May 28th, 1997, I was not satisfied with the answer I received from the council regarding
traffic control at the intersection of Allen avenue and Desoto street. There is currently a stop sign at
this location and I would like to see it remain there after Allen avenue extends to Centerville Road.
When I asked what the proposed traffic control was for Allen and Desoto, I only heard a discussion of
what is currently there and what the possibilities could be. I never heard a solid commitment from the
council for a 3 -way or 4 -way (Doug Wilson's driveway included) stop at the intersection.
I am asking the council members to agree to leave the existing stop signs in place and add at least one
more for the new eastbound Allen avenue traffic that will come from Centerville Road.
When I first moved into this neighborhood nearly 11 years ago this area used to have a culdesac at the
end of Desoto, and it was a very quite neighborhood. When the extension of Desoto street went
through to Labore Road, a lot of additional traffic was introduced. I feel that if Allen avenue is
extended to Centerville Road without a stop sign at Desoto (approximately the % way point), that Alien
avenue will become a racetrack between Edgerton and Centerville Road.
Please help preserve our neighborhood and agree on a stop sign to slow down traffic and deter
motorists looking for a fast short cut when other routes are busy.
Thank you,
llclacc f, Vtoicaoietp
Page 125
