Mayor & City Council Page 2
December 15, 1995
excessive amount of time I was putting in relative to my position. It is
my expectation that having someone else in the Department on a full -time
basis would help alleviate some of the excess time that I put in.
I also foresee many other advantages of replacing the two present part -time
positions with one full -time position. Some of them are as follows:
* The efficiency of the Department would be enhanced considerably
simply due to the improvement in communication within the
Department between employees. With Michelle and Jack employed at
their other jobs during the day, it often takes extra time to
coordinate and communicate with them.
* By staggering Michelle's and my work hours, it would assure that
one of us would be in the Parks & Recreation office during just
about all of the work day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This would
enhance the level of service to the residents by having complete
and accurate information available to them when they call or stop
in. Presently, there is the potential for three to five
different people in the main office that would answer the phones.
It is very difficult to keep even one person informed and "up -to-
date" on the Parks & Recreation Department's current information
and changing status of program availability. Program
registrations could also be expanded to the day time along with
the evenings that they are now held.
* With Michelle's extensive computer knowledge as it relates to the
Parks & Recreation field, we can finally put participant
information in the computer that will enable us to track those
participants in a more efficient manner thereby further improving
overall efficiency within the Department.
* Expanded programming potential for senior residents. In
Michelle's previous meetings with Lynnea LeBarron and Janell
Wampler of the Roseville Area Senior Program, they discussed the
opportunities to expand in the areas of senior /adult programming
for residents in the City of Little Canada. The following are
areas they discussed as possibilities for programming.
- Programming special events with the North Suburban
Senior Council.
- Cooperative educational programming with Roseville Area
Senior Program in the City of Little Canada.
- Cooperative senior /adult programming in the old Little
Canada Fire Hall, contingent on renovation.
- Narrowing communication gaps between 55 Plus, Roseville
Area Senior Program, Little Canada Parks & Recreation,
and Roseville Parks & Recreation.
- Additional marketing and promotion of programs.
Page 2
