MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />OCTOBER 10, 1996 <br />amendment also makes commercial recreational uses <br />Conditional Uses in the I -P Zoning District. <br />Keis stated that the issue is whether the City allows <br />these commercial uses in the I -P District or not. <br />Schletty pointed out the opposition from the businesses <br />in the area was concern that Grand Slam would attract <br />an undesirable element to the area. Schletty felt the <br />kids who go to batting cages are not the same type of <br />people who would create problems. <br />The Planner pointed out that recreational uses would be <br />allowed by Conditional Use Permit. Therefore, the City <br />could impose conditions on the CUP such as limiting <br />hours of operation, etc. <br />Keis asked Grand Slam about their hours of operation. <br />Todd Johnson of Grand Slam replied that he has been in <br />the business for 8 years and the latest the business <br />has been open is 10:30 P.M. Weekday hours are usually <br />10:30 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Weekend hours are 9:30 A.M. <br />to 9:00 P.M. <br />Keis asked the maximum number of people at the <br />facility. <br />Johnson replied that on a busy day there could be 50 <br />people in the building at one time. Johnson also <br />reported that in addition to the batting cages and two <br />courts, he would like to have six amusement devices. <br />Knudsen asked about the off - season. <br />Johnson reported that he would like to relocate to the <br />Di -Med building to take some of the seasonality out of <br />the business. This is proposed to be done with the <br />addition of the two basketball courts. Johnson pointed <br />out the space he would be renting would be 102 feet by <br />103 feet. This space would be improved with four <br />batting cages approximately 17 feet by 51 feet each, <br />amd two fully - enclosed sports court floors each <br />approximately 35 feet by 65 feet. These facilities <br />take up over three - fourths of the building area. The <br />batting cages are operated by tokens purchased at the <br />front desk.
