MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
OCTOBER 10, 1996
clubs were permitted uses in the I -P District. Marine
pointed out if he chose to put a bowling alley in on
the site, he would not have had to appear before the
Planning Commission and City Council.
Johnson reported as parents we are all looking for
positive things for our children to do, and he viewed
Grand Slam as a positive way to spend leisure time.
The City Planner pointed out that in order to operate
amusement devices at Grand Slam, Mr. Johnson would have
to obtain an amusement device license. The number of
devices would be limited to three, since an amusement
center is defined as having four machines or more, and
such a center is not a permitted use in the I -P
District. The Planner indicated even though the
batting cages are operated by tokens, they would not be
considered amusement devices since they are under the
direct supervision of Grand Slam employees. Vending
machines as well are not considered amusement devices.
Montour pointed out that the text amendment merely
clarifies the definition of sports and health club as
well as makes recreational uses subject to conditional
use permits.
The Planner replied that that is correct.
Carson felt bowling alleys and dance halls should be
removed from the listing of commercial recreational
uses, as he did not feel these were desirable uses in
the I -P District.
Montour pointed out that if the ordinance amendment is
adopted, a conditional use permit would be required for
a bowling alley or dance hall in the I -P District.
Knudsen felt that in reality neither a bowling alley
nor dance hall will locate in the industrial park since
each would want a liquor license.
Mr. Keis moved adoption of an ordinance amending
sections 902 and 918 of the Little Canada City Code,
known as the Zoning Ordinance, by establishing
provisions for the operation of commercial recreational
uses in the Industrial Park District.
Motion seconded by Montour.
4
Page 20
