515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
gFROM: Scott Tangen, Public Works Director
DATE: August 23, 1996
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
RE: Parking on Canabury Drive from Demont to County Road B2
I have received a couple of requests to review parking on Canabury Drive
between Demont Avenue and County Road B2. Some facts on this street are as
follows:
* It is a bituminous surfaced street with bituminous curbing both
sides along the majority of the street.
* It is 27 feet wide except where you approach Demont where it
widens to 36 feet at the concrete curb.
* It has an average annual daily traffic count (AADT) of 900 in
1993.
* It has a 30 m.p.h. speed limit.
* Canabury Condominiums, 2495 Canabury Drive, is adjacent to the
street. They have 101 dwelling units, 105 parking spaces
available indoors, and 200± parking spaces in both their front
and rear outdoor parking lots.
* Grand Pre Apartments, 205 County Road B2, is adjacent to the
street. They have 250 apartment units, 200 underground parking
spaces, and 200± parking spaces in the north and south outdoor
parking lots.
I have spoken with Dennis Sabo and Ralph Kobeska, Vice - President and
President of the Canabury Condominiums Association. They are both strongly
in favor of a parking ban on both sides of the street. I have also spoken
with Kathy Baerthel, Manager of the Grand Pre Apartments. She is against a
parking ban on both sides of the street, but she is for banning parking on
one side.
Given the hilly, curvy nature of the street, the amount of traffic, and the
width of this road, I recommend banning parking on both sides of Canabury
Drive from Demont Avenue to County Road B2.
ST:kv
Page 116
